The Aeronautica Militare operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to ensure the security and defence of the country and its citizens. It guarantees control and surveillance of national and Euro-Atlantic and Euro-Mediterranean airspace. It also protects vital national interests abroad through numerous international operations and missions. The international community recognizes the Aeronautica Militare, and by extension Italy, for its excellent capabilities, allowing it to lead in areas such as fighter operations, flight training, air transport (including bio-containment healthcare), the use of remotely piloted aircraft, aerospace, advanced logistics management, and meteorology.
The Piacenza Airport Detachment, established on September 1st, 2017, on the grounds of San Damiano, is part of the 6th Wing of Ghedi, which reports to the Milan Combat Forces Command under the Air Squadron Command.
Today, the Piacenza Airport Detachment has two primary institutional roles: to serve as a base for the redeployment of operational units during exercises and, potentially, before actual deployment, and to contribute to the preservation and promotion of the Aeronautica Militare's aeronautical and aerospace heritage.
In recent years, various initiatives have been developed to enhance the Detachment. There are numerous agreements with companies involved in aeronautical and automotive development, which, through public tenders, have been granted the use of the airport’s surfaces and airspace (when not being used for specific operational or training activities) for research, development, and testing.
The Aero Club Pavullo S.s.d. a.r.l. operates at the "G. Paolucci" Civil State Airport under an ENAC concession, ensuring operations year-round. It manages flight line services, radio communications, airport taxes, facilities, safety, security, and fire prevention, serving general aviation, as well as sports and business aviation.
The Aero Club’s long-term planning and intervention capabilities have allowed "Paolucci" to evolve significantly in terms of traffic, operations, and prestige in recent years. This progress is largely due to the organizational stability of the Club, which was founded in 1965. Since 1987, under the leadership of the current President, Roberto Gianaroli, the Club has maintained a practically unchanged board of directors, consistently carrying out essential initiatives for the survival and development of the airport.
